Methodology

Methodology and open docs

HomeTaxChallenge uses county public records and transparent comparable-property screening to help homeowners decide whether an assessment appeal is worth reviewing before they spend time on forms.

What the estimator checks

  • Official county parcel, assessment, township, and public sales data where available.
  • Nearby comparable properties with similar location, living area, age, style, beds, baths, and other usable public-record facts.
  • Low, mid, and high annual savings ranges based on a potential lower assessed value and recent tax-rate context.
  • County-specific deadlines, complaint forms, filing channels, and official evidence rules.

Open docs

This public methodology page documents the HomeTaxChallenge screening workflow while the open-docs repository and Pages site are prepared.

Limits

HomeTaxChallenge is not affiliated with any county and does not provide legal, tax, appraisal, or financial advice. Estimates are screening outputs, not guaranteed appeal results or guaranteed tax savings.
